Yes thats actually a good write of the comparisons between the engines. You also forgot the whole cross platform support of doom 3 vs farcry too =)
OGL can do alot its just really hard to write in, unless you have some foundation code.Thats where GLSL will come into play. Allowing less time to be spent on shaders. HLSL is where dx beat out ogl, or rather just got to the punch first.
It's more of a battle of API's rather than engine wars. Remember some of the most successful fps engines/games in history are OGL. And a vast majority of these games came from modified carmack foundation code.
