Well I know it is a dirty fix however I can get quake3 to run by typing this

LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/libGL.so" quake3
LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/libGL.so" quake3-smp
LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/libGL.so" ut2004
so use this LD_PRELOAD command and then type the game you want to play

A better solution is to remove conflicting libraries and/or to correct the ld search path.

You need to uninstall any packages providing conflicting libraries; you can determine where the conflicting libGL is located using ldd, e.g. ldd $(which glxinfo). One alternative would be to modify the search order in /etc/ld.so.conf, another to install updated NVIDIA driver packages provided by the distributor.

I'm having the same problem but maybe I have a clue for you boys.
UT2004 stop working after I patched (official patch). But I had copied ALL ut2004 directory into ut2004_bak
The mistery is... The old ut2004 is still working PERFECTLY!
But I get
Either GL_EXT_bgra or glDrawRangeElements not supported- bailing out.
with the patched version.
So, same driver, same system. Two versions of UT2004 retail and one is working the other not.

AMD64 3000+, 1GB, GeForce5700LE, SuSE 9.1,
