Hi!
When I'm using kernel 2.6.7 and nvidia-glx I will get only about 45 fps with glxgears. Usinge kernel 2.6.5 with the same kernel-config I get 2800 fps, using the xfree or xorg-softwarerendering I get 270 fps... I tried a lot: kernel-agpgart/nvidia-agpgart xfree/xorg-x11 Same problem with different cards (GeForce 4 MX 440/4 Ti4200) different nvidia-driver: 4496/5336/6106 My config: Athlon XP 2700 NForce2-Chipset xfree 4.3 or xorg 6.7 Kernel 2.6.7 Vanilla Distri: Gentoo xorg.conf: --------- Section "Device" BoardName "GeForce2 MX/MX 400" BusID "PCI:3:0:0" Driver "nvidia" Identifier "Device[0]" Option "RenderAccel" "true" VendorName "NVidia" Option "NvAGP" "1" EndSection Google couldn't help, any ideas? Thanks in advance! Thomas aka Murray_B |

Kernels 2.6.6 and 2.6.7 have a buggy ehci module (USB 2.0). Remove it from kernel (recompile) completely and see if that helps.

I noticed extremely pathetic performance in general after upgrading to 2.6.7. This was a stock kernel from kernel.org, no patches whatsoever. Quake 3 Arena was VERY sluggish, as was simple things like dragging windows around and compiling.
I reverted to the 2.6.6 I was running previously, also a bare kernel from kernel.org. Everything is fine under 2.6.6. 90fps solid in Q3A and fast compiles. The fact that the performance of processes other than video related (like compiling) were impact suggests that this is a kernel problem, not an Nvidia problem. System: Pentium 4 3.0GHz, 512MB RAM, NVidia QuadroNVS 280*, Fedora Core 2 * - came with the box. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's pretty fast for gaming; seems to compare to a GF4 MX in my experience. I may have to upgrade it when DOOM3 comes along though... -Z |

but if i disable HT in der BIOS, glxgears runs much faster maybe its a problem with the kernel and smp?? System Pentium 4, Geforce FX 5600, 512 MB Ram, Gentoo 2004.1, NV: 6111 |

The problem vanished with 2.6.8.1, so whatever it was, they fixed it.
