Interesting concept ...... develop a game engine that looks beautiful and then make it light enough to see!

Aww, it's just a bunch of block rooms with shader surfaces in it? Well that kinda sucks, I thought the "benchmark" would actually be a semi-realistic HL2 scene rather than a bunch of random effects thrown in a room togeather. Seems like a pretty crappy indicator of performance, the thing doesn't look like it's stressing the CPU at all without AI or physics, which is my main concern on my aging XP2000 processor.

Oh well, at least it looks pretty, though a few surfaces do look a bit rough.

I agree. Some parts of the pics look good but it doesn't look that great. Maybe they should have made it darker.

Hope the game is better.

i'm more concerned with the game actually shipping. Then i'll worry about the graphics. =)

IMO the benchmark looks rather nice and gives me some hope as to what HL2 will look like. With that said, I'm still not sure how it can be a valid representation as to how HL2 will run on our systems seeing as the benchmark was more or less just some empty rooms showing off dx9 tech were has the game will have a lot of characters interacting with the environment & other scripted actions. Would call it a source tech demo more than an *actual* benchmark.
