Well I was kinda joking around, the early Ultima games are so primitive by today's standards you can't really compare them to anything other than maybe King's Quest or something (though the Ultima games were better). I haven't played IX, so I wouldn't know there.

Ultima IX was good (at least in my opinion, a lot of other people thought it sucked) I hadn't seen any of the Final Fantasies being remade, but all the Ultimas are. Even Ultima IX is being redone because so many fans didn't like it. King's Quest is an Adventure game, not an RPG. The BEST CRPG's ever made, would have to be Ultima 4, Alternate Reality, and more recently Fallout and Neverwinter Nights (though I still need to beat that one, been playing it off and on since it came out). The Console RPG's are in a genre of their own, so you're right, not really a fair comparison. But whenever I hear all these people praising them, I think to myself "Wow, how young are they that they only remember playing Final Fantasy on their Nintendos?" I first played Ultima 1 on my Atari 800XL. That should show some of my age...
As far as being Primitive... graphics/sound wise I'd agree, but compare the game play to most RPGs that are being made now... Leech |

Well this is a pretty stupid thing to argue about, considering it's 100% subjective. Let's agree to disagree and leave it at that. I do get annoyed by "old-school" gamers trying to turn a discussion into a pissing contest, though.
"D00D, I'm like, so old skool, I beta tested Pong!" "Nuh uh, D00D! Like, you're totally lame! I was like, totally playing Pong before they even invented it, or whatever! lolz!" "No D00D! I'm like, a lot older than you and stuff, you kno lolz!!11! So I'm like, totally smarter than you, or whatever!!11!" I'm 23. I've been playing video games since I was 5. Older than me? Been playing games longer? Still got fond memories of your old Commodore 64? I don't care, it doesn't matter, and it's completely irrelevant to this discussion.

Wow, I thought we were all having a healthy discussion here. Perhaps I didn't pay close enough attention, but I didn't see any sign of animosity by anyone's part. Heh, oh well.
A game's graphic in an RPG is no big of a concern for me. I can look past the pretty graphics as long as they story and gameplay holds. I'm a big fan of both console and PC RPGs. Both offer a very different gaming experience. I like the Final Fantasy, and I personally favor them over any other, because of the overall presentation. Story, character interaction, and plot development is a huge bonus, although the gameplay can be a bit linear. It has to be to tell a compelling story I suppose. I played through Dragon Warrior VII even though teh graphics do indeed look worst than some SNES RPGs...and this is a late late Playstation game! I'm just the type of person who likes my imagination to play a part in teh tale as well. Neverwinter Nights is a GREAT game. I've gone through the original campaign and the two additional expansions and I love them. I never got into the whole on-line multiplayer aspect of it, as the single campaigns took long enough as it is for me. As for the Ultima series, I plan to pick all the series up. I just love RPGS, period, whatever system it may come from. ![]() |

I'm paranoid about mosquitos, especially with all the West Nile hooplah here in California...
(I'm not clapping, I'm trying to kill a mosquito)

Lol, "the dirty side of L.A." Riverside is clean compared to the parts I live in (between Downtown and Hollywood). Also, I heard that there were a few elderly that died in Orange County. There's sporadic cases spread throughout Southern California. Not a huge epidemic or anything, but it gets a lot of press.

No offense, but when I said the "dirty" side of LA, I meant the Smog. It's pretty bad over there. Houses are cheap tho!
