Default lod Bias

I have a question can someone tell me what is a lod bias!
in Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory i see that option, but when i change it i see no difference...

what does it do, and if you could could you show some example...thank you...!

Ridiculous DOES not have an 'e' in it. It comes from "ridicule" and has less than nothing to do with the colour red.
