Default Nvidia problem in games

Ok let me first start out by saying x does work but crashes randomly in games so i did some poking around and at 1 point i had to change the permissions for /dev/nvidia/* and change ownership to root so i thought that was problem but in fact when i go to change permissions and ownership again it says /dev/nvidia/* no such directory i use to have /dev/nvidia/* now its gone any suggestions i tried re emerging newest kernel and glx still nothing checked xorg.conf and remerged it glxinfo does also have direct rendering on.Latest nvidia drivers 6111

You need to change permission on /dev/nvidia*

Remove the last '/' and try again. As there is no /dev/nvidia directory.
