Default What is GL_NVX_ycrcb and how do you use it?

GL_NVX_ycrcb is an extension which is reported by glxinfo, however I havn't found any documentation on it or about it.

(For those who don't know, YCrCb is the color space that color NTSC is in.. i.e. TV)

The nearest thing to documentation I could find on GL_NVX_ycrcb is:
http://oss.sgi.com/projects/ogl-samp...SGIX/ycrcb.txt
which is documentation on GL_SGIX_ycrcb

This seems really really similiar.. but even it is not enough- there is no mention on how the pixels are packet, etc.

This extension (if I remember correctly) popped up in 4191, and is with is in the current driver too.

A grep find the following:

[fenix@gandalf GL]$ grep ycrcb *
glext.h:#ifndef GL_SGIX_ycrcb
glext.h:#ifndef GL_SGIX_ycrcb_subsample
glext.h:#ifndef GL_SGIX_ycrcba
glext.h:#ifndef GL_SGIX_ycrcb
glext.h:#define GL_SGIX_ycrcb 1
glext.h:#ifndef GL_SGIX_ycrcba
glext.h:#define GL_SGIX_ycrcba 1
glext.h:#ifndef GL_SGIX_ycrcb_subsample
glext.h:#define GL_SGIX_ycrcb_subsample 1
gl.h:#define GL_NVX_ycrcb 1
gl.h:/* NVX_ycrcb */

Any ideas?

"Just play with it" isn't acceptable, because it could cause a crash at some later date, and not now simply because the program gets layed out differently in memory each time it is run.

The current GL_NVX_ycrcb advertised in the driver is the result of some development work. Once the extension specification is finalized it will be posted on opengl.org.

OK, good to know...
(And Thanks for the response!)

Can you give any hints as to what it will do? It could impact the design of some of our software since we would love to have better YCrCb compatibility (We do television).

Dear aritger,

Please, give us any hints at least about if it works at all so we should stop trying if not. The extensions report supporting this format, so should we suppose it actualy does, or is this report erroneous?

We tried hard to use this extension. However, no combination of parameters we could think of worked with GL_NVX_ycrcb type - mostly it was drawn as if were RGBA, if drawn at all.
For any video application, this would be a great format: Halves the data bandwidth on AGP, eliminates the YCrCb conversion....

Thanks a lot, best regards,

If it's still in development - any chance you could add YUV411 as well ?

Dear aritger,

Is there any timeframe in which details of the GL_NVX_ycrcb interface might be published? Also, "glutExtensionSupported()" reports that the GL_NVX_ycrcb interface is no longer being supported on the most current GeForce drivers. Version 5.2.1.6 is the last one in which I could find it. I am hoping that, that does not portend a move by nVidia towards yanking support for the GL_NVX_ycrcb interface.

Best regards,
Sanjeeb

Thank you for your interest, Sanjeeb. I do not have an ETA for GL_NVX_ycrcb.

Sorry.
