Question Linux Driver Install - File Missing

I have a Compaq Presario 5822 which i recently upgraded with a Geforce4 MX440. I downloaded the drivers from nvidia's website, and went to runlevel 3 to install. The package installer tried to compile a kernel module, but stopped because it couldn't find nvidia.o. I checked my entire computer for this file, but cannot find it. Any ideas?

grrrr
