IIRC, Valve's still contracted to Vivendi to produce one more game under their label. Given the problems that they've had thus far, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve decided to go with a different publisher.

Valve should get it over with and produce their last game in a very short amount of time, like "Gordon's Desktop Toys".

I cant believe they didnt engineer their contract to say they can release it on Steam when they like. Theres still a heck of a load of ppl who will prefer to buy a boxed copy, its not like the publisher is only gonna sell a few hundred copies now is it?

It just smacks of more incompetance on valves behalf..

what gets me is both sides have had MORE than enough time to get this situated before the release. Why wait till a RC gets to VUG before this heats up. Smart buisness men would have used that year delay to take care of this issue, so there wouldnt be anymore issues come time of release.

Exactly, now tell me what's the frickin' point of preloading HL2 when it wouldn't be playable until its availible in retail? O gee, maybe we'll be able to play it at 12am on the day of its release?

Blah, think I'll puke if I read anymore of the seemingly never ending HL2 saga. Com'on Stalker & Q4, take away this torment….

yeah, i thought the whole point of getting it from steam was that you would get it earlier than the retail release. Now i got that preload sitting on my HD for what? Save me a few minutes installling the delxe edition i plan to buy? I usually savor that install time anyway...smoke up, read the manual while it installs...one of my favorite things...

Its not done yet.

You guys remember last year? "its nearly done", "its about to go gold", deadline passes, *crickets chirping*, "it won't be out until next year", "yes, we said 'september' but we didn't say which year", "ummm some hax0rs stole our one and only copy of the source code... yeah thats it".

This time they are blaming Vivendi.

You will still be waiting for it this time next year.

The timing of all this is absolutely perfect for me to get my retro gaming box up and running. My Voodoo Banshee arrived today, and I'm going to install it (along with 98Lite) tonight on my parents old K6-2 350. Carmageddon 2, NFS: 2 through 4, Diablo, et al - fun times.
