After looking at this, and taking into account my budget, I think I'd like to get the XFX NVIDIA GEFORCE FX 5600 256MB DDR DVI & VIVO. See it at: http://www.xfxforce.com/product_view.php?sku=PVT31KUC

My question is, will I be able to make it work on a Debian testing box (Sarge) that has an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard and is running a 2.6.6 kernel? I can upgrade the kernel if necessary, but has anyone had experience with Debian and/or ASUS with that particular graphics card?

Depending on what you're upgrading from the 5600 would probably be a good choice. Anand tech reviewd @1280x1024, so I'm sure there's some wiggle-room at lower resolutions and/or details with that card. However, if you look at the numbers, you'll see that the FX5700ultra performs roughly twice as fast as the 5600XT. I'm not familiar with the specs of the 5600XT or the 5600, but I would imagine the 5600XT to be slightly faster. Judging by your budget, I imagine you want to spend in the ballpark of approximately $100-110. However if you can swing the extra $70 or so for a FX5700ultra, you will have a superior card:

eVGA FX5700ultra $175

Of course, if it really does come down to the budget, get the best that you can at that price point... Believe me, I've been there!
