Cool Clone mode stereo under Linux

Hi

How does "Clone mode stereo" work under LINUX. I set up 'Twinview' with 'Option "Stereo" "4"' in the XF86Config file under RedHat 8.0 with a QuattroFX 1000 graphic card.

Section "Device"
# no known options
Identifier "NVIDIA Quadro 4 (generic)"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Quadro 4 (generic)"
BoardName "NVIDIA Quadro 4 (generic)"
Option "TwinView" "yes"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "31.5-80.0"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "56.0-76.0"
Option "Metamodes" "1280x1024,1280x1024"
Option "Stereo" "4"
EndSection

I expected to see the scene slightly shifted on the two screens when running an OpenGL application for the left and right eye but got two identical images.

Is there something I don't understand about "Clone mode stereo" ? How can I set the eye-distance ? Which graphic cards support "Clone mode stereo" under Linux: GeForceX, Quattro 4, Quattro FX ?

Andreas

First off, the application needs to support stereo. It is not a function of the driver, but of the application. The driver simply takes the four draw planes and does the right thing with them (2 for the front and 2 for the back). The 2 front planes are handled differently by the driver for each type of supported stereo.

The application is responsible for requesting 4 draw planes instead of 2 and for handling the eye-distance by modifing its projection matrix. Is your test application doing that? (Most don't). Also, difference is screens can be very small expecially if the object is right at screen level. You may want to try active stereo first where you can do a pixel by pixel comparison. You don't need glasses for this test, just make sure you can see to seperate images.
