hmm odd "ERROR: Module rivafb does not exist in /proc/modules" if it doesn't exists then why did the installation say that it's running?

might be a bug in the installer *shrugs*

one sure-fire way to check is by typing lsmod. if you don't see it in this list, then you should be worry-free.

if i were guessing, your kernel has the module installed -- but the software that comes with your linux distribution for dynamic module loading unloads it as it is not needed.

the installer may have only warned that rivafb was compiled as a module and would cause problems if loaded. if the install completed and the new driver is running, then you do not have rivafb loaded and are fine.

It is also possible that rivafb was compiled into the main kernel, and not as a module. This means that you'd have to recompile your kernel o get it to work nicely with the nvidia driver. There are advantages to compiling a custom kernel anyway, so it's not a bad thing. If you need any help with what options to select for your new kernel, post as much of your H/W spec as you can, and folks can tell you which options to enable.
