Default FX 5200 Dual head

Hi,

today I tried to make a dual head setup. I've connected two CRTs to a GeForce FX 5200 and configured my X like described in the readme. When I started X I got the same screen on both monitors. It was like the clone-mode but I was able to scroll out of screen.

I tried to adjust the offset manually with
Code:
Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024, 1280x1024 +1280+0"
but both screens moved by 1280 pixel so I saw the other half of my windows manager on both monitors. The same happend when I changed the orientation from RightOf to LeftOf... I tried a lot of other stuff but nothing worked.

My system:

Kernel 2.6.8.1
XFree86 4.3.0
nVidia driver 1.0-5336

GeForce FX 5200

Any ideas?

I've had dual head working on my 5200, but i've got a flat pannel connected via DVI and a CRT.

Seems some of the video cards have odd wiring when it comes to the two outputs - it's possible your card only has one 'RAMDAC' and can only drive one CRT, and the Analogue signal pins on your DVI connector are connected in parallel with the analogue-VGA out socket.

I must admit, i've never tried to drive two analogue outputs with my FX5200 based card as I've always used my LCD screen's DVI input.

Default Re: FX 5200 Dual head

Here is the configuration i use with a FX 5200 PCI (2VGA+1TVOUT), xorg-x11 6.7.0-3mdk, and nvidia driver 53.36. (please note that i do not use the tv-out)
Section "Device"
Identifier "device1"
VendorName "NVidia"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce FX (generic)"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:3:1:0"
Screen 0
Option "DPMS"
Option "UseInt10Module" "on"

Option "TwinView" "on"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT, CRT"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-70"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50-60"
Option "MetaModes" "1024x768,1024x768 ; 800x600,800x600 ; 640x480,640x480 ; 400x300,400x300"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "RightOf"
EndSection
Do not forget that one of the sum'ed MetaModes should be less than the size given in the "screen" section : ie for a "1024x768,1024x768" the "screen" size should be 2048x768. NB: The UseInt10Module & ConnectedMonitor may not be mandatory.

About the strange wiring/single-ramdac possibility, i have a answer (worked for me) : test under windows. If you could get two different output from your card under windows, it should be possible on linux !

Hope it helps you
