Default NForce3, Athlon64 and glx

i have a debian unstable install (32bit) working for over a year now and i updated my motherboard to a msi k8n with a 3400+ amd64. because the official 64bit debian isn't released yet i want to stay with my 32bit debian.

after installing the latest linux nvidia driver (i had 4xxx on my system but that one hang opun loading the module) i can use the 'nvidia' module in xfree again, but glx fails to load with a signal 11.
i installed a new kernel (optimized for athlon64 but still 32bit) with agpgart for athlon64) but still no glx. dmesg gives me:

Linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 941M
agpgart: Detected NVIDIA nForce3S/K8 On-CPU GART chipset
agpgart: AGP aperture is 64M @ 0xe0000000
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:05.0 to 64
NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-6111 Tue Jul 27 07:55:38 PDT 2004
AGP: Version 2 AGP device found.
AGP: Version 2 AGP device found.
AGP: Only 0 devices found, not enough, trying AGPv2

if i disable glx everything works fine (xv, overlay etc).

i checked /proc:

evert@scr4t:/proc/driver/nvidia/agp$ cat card
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x
Registers: 0x1f000217:0x1f000104
evert@scr4t:/proc/driver/nvidia/agp$ cat host-bridge
Host Bridge: PCI device 10de:00e1 (nVidia Corporation)
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x
Registers: 0x1f000217:0x00000104
evert@scr4t:/proc/driver/nvidia/agp$ cat status
Status: Enabled
Driver: AGPGART
AGP Rate: 4x
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Disabled

and it looks like the nvidia module is loaded correctly.
so my question. is it possible to stay in 32bit mode (using the ia32bit nvidia driver) on a athlon64 (with 32bit kernel and applications)?
or is something else wrong? why is my agp device not found correctly? (it's a ti4200 btw)

hope someone can help me out

Works for me. System in sig.
Same except I run gentoo.
Try NvAGP runs faster than AGPGART.

tried that too yesterday. it first complained that 'agpgart' was still loaded but after rmmod of that module there where no messages in /var/log/messages anymore, but still a segfault (signal 11) after loading glx. can there be a dependency problem with other modules? i did check the modules/extension dir and there where no other (.a) glx modules there...
