Question Will Longhorn be 64 bit? A64users will need use this or Win64?

Win64 has been delayed a lot so maybe i was even thinking it will never be released.

Does maybe Microsoft think to just release Longhorn?

Will it be 64 bit?

If no then what operating system A64 users will need to use? Longhorn or Win64?

Longhorn will be released in two flavors, 64, and 32-bit.

You know that longhorn is just the code name for the next Windows OS.

So esentialy longhorn 64 bit is Windows 64-bit.

Microsoft is planing a broad release of Longhorn in 2006. Windows Xp 64-bit edition still is in the beta stage. I realy think that microsoft is just giving 64-bit a test drive. Longhorn 64-bit will be the true 64-bit OS that will be widely availible.

poor Amd, has lost a lot of time developing a 64 bit processor and then Microsoft just wait for Intel

Yes, it would be a dream come true in 2006 to see rapid deployment of Windows Longhorn, but its just not going to happen! Some companies have just moved off either Windows NT or Windows 9x to 2000 and do not see any significant changes in Windows XP [...] take a good look at Longhorn and migrate to it in 2006 or 2007; the most obvious is 64 Bit. Company’s can thrive on the ability to gain more power for their networks and less hassle for transition in areas such as application compatibility.

your comp will become too old as soon as you buy it. just get an athlon 64/fx board/cpu, should be fine for a while.

Arrow Re: Will Longhorn be 64 bit? A64users will need use this or Win64?

I dont even think that win64 extended os will be released at all.
Its just the beta os for the longhorn version.

I have installed the BETA win64 extended os, and it runs perfectly.
The only thing why i dont use it anymore is because of the old Directx support. there aint a 64-bit Directx 9.0c 2 bad

And about what you said:
poor Amd, has lost a lot of time developing a 64 bit processor and then Microsoft just wait for Intel.

Poor amd? lol Microsoft aint the only OS available in this world
Look at Linux, Linux has already the 64-bit dist's.
The only thing about microsoft is that they have a deal with Intel thats why they aint in a hurry creating a fully completed 64-bit OS.

I think they are a very stupid company (Microsoft) making closed Operating Systems full Bugs and so on.

Anyhow i think it would be a very very good idea buying a new computer looking at your comp specs lol.
If you dont think your computer is already out of date with those specs, then i wouldn't think you new computer will be fast out of date.

The thing is, Technology goes faster everything you buy wil be out dated very fast. And that will be also when you wait to buy a computer in 2006 or 2007, just accept it.

Buying a coputer in 2005 will be a very good idea, dont worry about it. just buy a AMD64-bit computer and you will be alright for a couple of years

ok you are right about linux but look that the % of people that use linux is really little compared to the windows market

so also if amd has adantage there i don't think it will help them to get so much more money.

they would have got a looot more if win64 was released.

Thats true The % of Microsoft users is more then linux users.
But give it some time Linux is getting better every minute.

Well the thing is the amd64-bit cpu is still a very strong processor even used on a win32-bit os. The good thing about this amd64 cpu is that it can run 32bit processed and 64bit processes. ofcourse its even faster on a 64bit os, but hey buying it now gives you a advantage for the future. Whenever the real finished win64 will come out you already have a 64bit system waiting for it with open hands
