Interesting, interesting indeed. I guess it's kinda a smart thing for them to not release it the month after Half-life 2 and Halo 2 come out...but why not in January? Seems like the first few months of 2005 would be a better release date than May. I thought the quote about how many discs the game would come on was funny:
Q: How many CD/DVD discs will STALKER consist of? A: A lot. |

If they are scared because of HL2 which quite frankly i dont understand all the fuzz about, i think if stalker would be released this year if would bring a competition to it.
If they are so afraid then perhaps the game is really really bad. I know lots of people thinks it will kick hl2 ass and i think so too. Shame that developers are so afraid today.

When I first heard about stalker, I was pretty excited. However, the more of these interviews and previews I read, the more I begin to understand that the company making the game has no interest in making it fun to play. "we just want to overwhelm the player with anal-retentive and mundane tasks such as sleeping, eating, excreeting waste, maintaining weapons, and dying of radiation. Because we have a good graphics engine however, we are sure that anything we do to gamers will go over well

Well, not that this has any baring what so ever on the final game but I accidently stumbled upon an alpha of STALKER:Oblivion Lost (yeah, before they changed the name) and it seemed pretty nice. The graphics were very pretty, the performance was absolutely perfect. There wasnt much to it, but it didnt seem bad at all. Considering that it was very old and very unfinished, the fact that they could make an alpha as pollished as that tells me that they have plenty of talent for making a great game.
And I dont think itl be as rough as hazindu says. From all of the other previews and interviews Ive read they seem to be focussing on making the game fun more than anything else. I think they can pull it off and still keep all the features that they advertised. This huge delay will deffinitely help them too. The game should be nice and patched and FINISHED by may. I dont think we'll have any 80mb patches on release day for this title.

The animation is what I'm concerned about. They hype their skeletal animation system, but man - those E3 videos were not impressive at all. The animation has to improve leaps and bounds beyond what was demonstrated publicly so far, it does no good if you have a beautiful static world where the immersion is destroyed as soon as you encounter an NPC.
