I was browsing through DOOM³ Files for some mods. It seems they've got some interesting mods there. One of them is simulated virtual displacement mapping for DOOM³.
Parallax Mapping Mod ![]() ![]() Ultra Extreme Quality Mod ![]() Anyone want to give these a go? I won't be home till tonight or tomorrow and won't get a chance to try either of these out. Make sure to read the comments though, since it seems they both have some bugs. The parallax mapping mod recommends to delete a file that it comes with to work correctly on nVidia cards. I'd recommend copying your DOOM³ base folder before applying mods after the incident with the duct tape mod on my friends computer. We couldn't get rid of it after. |

I've tried the Ultra Extreme Quality mod and I really can't see a difference between the mod and the original. But that just may be me.

I never could get that parallax one to work right... it always looked like crap on most of the textures and stuff... wish it would have worked :\.

The parallax mapping mod doesn't work quite right yet. There are strange texture issues in some levels. It's also a bit more performance hungry. The UEQ mod simply enables self shadowing on all characters. It's also hits performance and some of the self shadowing is not quite correct.

Well, at least this proves that Doom3 can handle any shader written for it
It's not a DX7 game ![]() |

I tried both these mods and the game still looks the same. Maybe it activates when you change levels. Anyways...I think the game looks fine the way it is. I have the player shadow on and it all works fine. I tried setting the AA to 16 in-game and man oh man, it looked perfect, but it ran about 10 to 15 frames too slow. Next generation cards will play it fine if mine can do it ok.
