Default slow screen redraw on smp system

Hi,

My system redraws the screen very slowly although dri seems to be working fine. I do get a hiccup during 3D accelerated programs (it momentarily freezes for a split second).

Looking through the XF86Config file I did notice that it configured my video card as bus id: 5:0:0. I edited it to 1:0:0 but this crashes the X server.

Also, if I cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status I see that there is no info in this file.

So I don't know if it's seen as a AGP card or PCI card and I think this is where the problem lies.

My system specs are:

SuSE 9.1 Professional
2.6.5-7.111-smp kernel
Quadro FX 3000
nvidia 6629 driver
Tyan KW8
Dual 248

I have included the nvidia-bug-report file. Please note that I have included a few options in the XF86Config file to enable stereo mode, but these options didn't affect the behavior of the system.

Here are the lines that I added in:

# Option "Overlay" "on"
Option "UseEdidFreqs" "on"
# Option "IgnoreEDID" "on"
Option "Stereo" "3"
Option "NvAGP" "3"
Option "NoFlip" "off"
Option "UBB" "on"
Option "RenderAccel" "on"

I am not sure if the nvidia-bug-report.sh file was attached last time so I am attaching it again.

I did some playing with the XF86Config file and now I noticed in the log file the following line:

NVRM: not using NVAGP, kernel was compiled with GART_IOMMU support!!

AGPGART is not loaded as a module (I checked) so I think agp is disabled, and I am unsure what to try next.

PS I had to delete a few lines in order to make it smaller than 100kb.

Arrow Re: slow screen redraw on smp system

I have nearly the same system with the same problem. Your post helped me to look in the right places. Add the following line to your /etc/lilo.conf boot entry:

append = "iommu off"

Here is how the lilo.conf entry looks on my machine, for example:

image = /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9
label = 2.6.9
root = /dev/md0
append = "iommu=off console=tty0"
vga = 0x31a

Then run lilo and reboot. I got this solution from my friendly neighborhood Linux guru.

Hope this helps!

Or if you use grub add it in the line which says something like
Quote:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.5-7.111-smp root=/dev/hda5 vga=0x31a acpi=off console=tty0 desktop resume=/dev/hda2 splash=silent
in the file /boot/grub/menu.lst
