Angry 1280x800 doesn't work with nvidia driver

1280x800 perfectly works with nv driver when I add modeline to my xorg.conf

Modeline "1280x800" 83.91 1280 1312 1624 1656 800 816 824 841

I have new 64bit acer aspire 1522WLMi. I tried 64bit FC3, suse 32bit livecd kde 9.2, 9.1 pro, ubuntu 32bit. They all have same problem if nvidia driver installs at all. I hope I can get support for this, cos win32 is hell slow, and its so painful to be stuck with it.

Here is my config:
-----------------------------------
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following commands as root:
#
# cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.custom
# md5sum /etc/X11/xorg.conf >/var/lib/xorg//etc/X11/xorg.conf.md5sum
# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

I couldn't even load nvidia driver now, that caused the screen to go irreversibly blank. Now I have ubuntu 32bit with their 2.6.9-k7 kernel

I also *HAD* problem making X work in 1280x800 with nvidia driver on Slackware 10 and my new HP pavilion zv5380us notebook (Athlon64 with 1280x800 screen and gforce440MX GO). I used gtf to get the modeline, which is reported as

# 1280x800 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 49.68 kHz; pclk: 83.46 MHz
Modeline "1280x800_60.00" 83.46 1280 1344 1480 1680 800 801 804 828 -HSync +Vsync

*HOWEVER*, when I change the "+Vsync" to "-Vsync", the problem is SOLVED. If not, the vertical image doesn't sync well (double-image). After changing to -Vsync, X works perfectly. Hope this also works for you(?).

I don't know why, though. Maybe some developer of nvidia driver or gtf can shed some light?

Here are the logs. Now nvidia refuses to load at all and blanks the screen. Only CTRL+ALT+DEL helps to reboot. I'm using ubuntu kernel 2.6.9-1-k7 with all their restricted modules including nvidia and glx packages. udev is also perhaps installed.

nv works just fine with that config (just nv instead of nvidia, and dri + Glcore)
would be fine just I need 3D and proper full screen video playback.

that's very weird what I'm experiencing now. When config is set to nv and I try to reload kdm, system tries to load nvidia!!! And fails.
Anyway adding -Hsync +Vsync to the modeline (mine, the one suggested above or by gtf doesn't work) fixed video playback with nv.
And tty sometimes become blue, text white, just unusable

Hope somebody who knows ubuntu can explain what's going on
