GF2 GTS - will it work w/new motherboards?

Will a GeForce2 GTS work with newer motherboards like socket939? I know some of the older AGP video cards will blow some of the newer motherboards but I'm not sure about the GF2...

Most likely not, but it might as long as it supports the proper AGP 4x standard/voltage. This is something you might want to ask at amdmb.com.

I wouldn't risk it, IMO.....if I remember right its only a 2X part, and put out too much voltage? If thats the case, It might blow it.

nForce3 939 should have no problems with a GeForce2 GTS in AGP4x mode.
1) GeForce2 GTS is AGP 2x/4x.
2) nForce3 is AGP4x/8x.

All my nForce2 motherbaords have an LED that glows red if an unusable AGP card is present (e.g. AGP 1x/2x). nForce3 939 likely have this feature too, to help appease your concerns.

It worked up to 865-875 chipsets, don't know about newer versions. But, since voltage specs and all haven't changed, it should work fine.

Good question. The other day I was building a new system, and the guy wanted to use an old GF3 Ti200 card. The mobo was an AOpen i865 based one. Anyhoo, I plugged the GF3 in and when it came time to power up, no go. The system refused to even start. Strangely, it powered up just fine when I plugged in a Radeon 9000 Pro card. I tried the GF3 card later in a system with a i845E mobo and it worked fine there.

Allmost all agp 3.0(.8 V) motherboards can use agp 2.0(1.5 V) cards, the geforce 2 supports the agp 2.0 standard(unless there was some 'special edition' for older motherboards using agp 1.0) so it so it shouldn't be a problem, the motherboard manual would probably tell you if the board supports 2.0 cards.

AGP 1.0 cards will not work though.

edit: hell, even the vanta and tnt2 had "AGP 4X/2X and AGP Texturing Support" according to nvidias legacy products page and might work, all though I'd be a bit nervous plugging one into a brand new motherboard. Geesh, just what kind of cards where using agp 1.0, riva 128?

i dont see why gf2 wouldn't work, even if its agp 2x.. thers no reason agp4x/8x boards can't be backwards compatible. the only cards i remember for sure don't work are the ones like voodoo5500 agp versions which was the 1.0 spec. so if your card came out around then it probably won't work..

It should work just fine. Any AGP GF2 is going to be AGP 4x.

Geez figures why the Geforce 2 GTS didn't work in the board, its an AOpen. They have compatibility issues with their optical drives as well!!

But the GTS should definately have no problem working in the S939 board, I see no reason why it shouldn't, it is AgP 4x
