I am trying to install the nvidia drivers to my Fedora Core 3 distro (2.6.10).
I managed to get the drivers to work without rebooting my computer because I was able to see the "Gears" screensaver that use GL but things go back to square one after reboot. During the course of installing nvidia drivers, it involves editing the xorg.conf file by changing Driver "nv" to Driver "nvidia" and comment out Load "dri" and saved it (by typing :wq) and do some extra stuff to complete the installation of the drivers... now when I reboot my computer... GL is not working not even the "Gears" screensaver or any computer game that relies on nvidia drivers... and when I checked the xorg.conf that I edited earlier... IT IS BACK TO WHAT IT WAS! *sighs* - no matter how hard I tried to edit the file it is never saved after reboot even if I saved it earlier (as root) Any ideas?? Thanks and heaps. Martin |

I had a few teething problems with the nvidia installer
All works ok except: - my kernel was upgraded to 2.6.10, make sure you add the --add-this-kernel option: > sh NVIDIA-blah blah....run --add-this-kernel and run the NVIDIA file again, this time the custom file that was just generated by the command above. - device permission problem, I had to fix it by: > chmod 0666 /dev/nvidia* > chown root /dev/nvidia* I am still trying to keep the permissions even after reboot. (I am still figuring out this one, if you got any ideas, I would appreciate you posting them here) All done. P.S. My linux distro is Fedora Core 3 Kernel: 2.6.10 Martin Last edited by msmales; 01-03-05 at 04:41 AM. |

The last part shouldn't be necessary, just make sure that your user(s) is a member of the "video" group, which is owner of the /dev/nvidia*.
