Where do you connect the fans?
Hey guys, i just have a question:
Where do you connect new fans if the motherboard has only one "Sys Fan" power slot? Can you draw power from the PSU? How? |

Yes you can...And that's the best way to go. Fans nowadays come with 4 Pin connectors so you can connect it to your PS

Wow, no other chassis fan pins on the motherboard, eh? Bummer. You can also get an 3-to-4 pin adapter, so you can still use those fans you have with the molex plugs on your power supply, however I'm not sure they're very cost effective. I could be wrong.

I use the 3 to 4 pin adapter to hook to the power supply but on the rotation wire I hook it to the rotation pin on my mother board so I can see what speed my fan is turning in the bios or on my asus probe in windows.

I can't use the fan on my power supply because it uses a little 3 pin connector for the motherboard, which has no space left.

I bought a 3-to-4 pin adapter for my Delta fan on my heatsink, it works great.

Sometimes you have to pull it straight from the PSU AKA if you're using a Delta for instance...don't go plugging one of them big honking delta fans in your mobo They will even warn you with some of these fans that they draw too much current. There are conversion cables (that will allow it to plug into a 5.25" drive connector cable) if you need one...

I wish the norm for fan hookups, especially the really big ones (80mm and up) is to have a 4-pin connector for power and a 3-pin connector for tach reporting. That way, you don't have to rely on fan headers on the mobo and you can draw direct from the PSU.
