anandtech found a way to mod a dfi nforce4 ultra into SLI, and it performs quite well.

Thats pretty cool but I think they are making it out to be a bigger deal than it is. It isnt free performance. You still have to buy another video card to get that improvement. Anyone who is buying another video card can probably afford to spend another $100 on a real SLI board to get the full SLI speed (rather than losing ~15% performance using a mod).
Thats just my opinion though. If you have 2 identical PCI-E SLI-capable video cards laying around ( ), and no SLI board then its a good choice. Otherwise, you might as well just go all the way and get a real SLI board if you have to buy all the parts now.Heck, people spend hundreds more on high end CPUs to get far less than 15% improvement (ex. 3000+ vs. 3500+), yet they dont want to get full SLI speed for $100?
