I have found all version of Nvidia driver have slow 2D in desktop window resizing and dragging. may be the only quick version would be 3123 where XAA is still used. 2D hasn't improved. If Nvidia disagrees please give benchmark of xorg vs nvidia.
I like to try Xig (Accelerated-X) benchmarked to be the fastest 2D even outperform windows, but they do not support nvidia cards as nvidia does not release any information. |

I've only noticed HORRIBLY slow 2d when there is a 3d application running. This is surely a bug.

actually somethings are faster with nvidia 2D. I just notice acroread is faster with Nvidia than Xorg. I also notice resizing windows is slow with gtk apps with Nvidia. eg. firefox, gedit.

Do you have renderaccel enabled? I find that makes a big difference.

I've noticed the same thing - anything 3d is as fast as you'd expect, but 2d is horribly slow!
Opera seems to be the worst offender (probably the skins!) but dragging any window about lags a fair bit... I'm using a GF4 MX4000 with 6629 drivers on an AMD64 running Fedora Core 3 (KDE desktop) I've tried with/without renderaccel and various AGP options with no change... even tried the old trusty GF2 MX400! Still the same... Dropping back to the nv driver restores 2d performance, but obviously 3d dies then! Anyone got any thoughts? |

Yes, I always had Renderaccel enabled when using Nvidia driver
mr_ed: doesn't matter what card you use the 2D will still be slow. if you could try Accelerated-X demo with one of their supported cards that would be great. like to see the difference in that. |
