Dell Inspiron 8200 - NVIDIA 6629 - Fedora Core 3 - Driver Fix.
I know this was probably posted before but I thought I would post it again for anyone having problems loading NVIDIA's 6629 Drivers on a Dell Inspiron 8200 (UXGA screen) using Fedora Core 3.
1 - Load Fedora Core 3. (I used the everything option when selecting packages)
2 - Apply all the latest patches including the latest version of the 2.6 kernel. (at the time of this posting it was 2.6.10-1.741_FC3)
3 - Restart and boot up with the latest kernel.
4 - Download the 6629 version of the Linux NVIDIA drivers.
5 - The hit ctrl+alt+f1 and login as root.
6 - init 3
7 - Install the NVIDIA drivers. (nothing special here)
8 - cd /dev
9 - cp -a nv* /etc/udev/devices
10 - vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
11 - search for nv and replace it with nvidia
12 - search for Load "dri" and remove or comment out that line.
13- vi /etc/modprobe.conf
14- add the following line near the top of the file.
options nvidia NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0 NVreg_Mobile=0
That's it. New NVIDIA drivers should be loaded and working with out any screen corruption.
