Default Whoa, got to watch your idle temperatures!

I have an AMD Athlon64 3200+ S939 on an Asus A8V Deluxe. I previously overclocked the CPU to 2.1 GHz. Seeing my generic PC3200 ram can take 215 MHz, I boosted the overclock to 2.15 GHz.

Using stock AMD heatsink fan with AS5 application.

When I overclocked to 2.1 GHz, my idle temperature was 36C. Now at 2.15 GHz with a 50 MHz increase, my idle temperature is now 40C! It's a good thing I ran Asus Probe, otherwise I'd imagine at 2.2 GHz, my idle temperature would be around 48C in an exponential increase relationship!

A 4c increase is not bad ,if your room was just a little hotter would cause that small of a increase.

No, I have enabled AMD Cool N' Quiet via bios. It has set my CPU voltage at 1.408 V when I run CPU-z.

That's probably part of your problem right there. If you're overclocking, you shouldn't have CnQ enabled.

Cool Re: Whoa, got to watch your idle temperatures!

Oh ok thanks. I'll disable it and see what it does.

Hey saturnotaku, my idle CPU temperature has decreased to 37C. Thanks for the advice.

Should I use Asus' Cool and Quiet software that came with the A8V Deluxe or does that do nothing?

No, don't use it at all. It serves no purpose and will really only cause problems for you if you're trying to O/C.
