gnome-cups-icon in Panel Notification Area

well for several months i have ben trying to resolve a problem...

on 3 of the boxes on my debian network the gnome-cups-icon appears when printing and vanish when done.....this is normal.....but on the other 4 boxes....printing occurs normally but no gnome-cups-icon.....all i believe have been installed the same way...ok.l.here are more details...now that you have background info...

from the cosole if i for example:
$lpr /opt/sources.list

i print fine and when i switch to gnome while printing the icen is present...but never disappear when printing completes...
if printing completes prior to gnome...no icon...that is ok....since not printing...

ok...now when in gnome....printing is fine but no icon...

all printers on the system work fine....any ideas...anyone...?
