Angry 1.0-4191 drivers considerably slower than 1.0-3123

I've just downgraded back to to NVidia's previous set of drivers - I'm really disapointed with the 4191 release - it seems to be slow and jerky, poor at loading and pondrous 2d performance.

Could it be that I have been using it with Redhat's new 2.4.18-19.8.0 kernel, or is it just a buggy release?

In any case I have now downgraded to the 3123 kernel and things seem to have gone back to normal - what a relief!

I noticed the slowdown, too.

Could it be that you're also running an Athlon board? It's such a problem here that XMMS gets choppy, and it hasn't done that since they added (and I started using) the 'realtime priority' feature in it.

I suspect this is AGP-related. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking that's where to look; it helped a bit on mine.

Thats right,

I noticed this problem with several Athlon and Duron based boards with Geeforce 2 graphics cards in them...

I saw the problem with XMMS, and Mplayer - any 2d intensive application, especially those that use video overlay...

My advice to anybody reading this forum is to wait untill the next release is out - this one is really not worth bothering with.

Question When is the next release?

Me too, can't use Xine anymore since I installed 4191 drivers RPMs on my Mandrake 9.0 desktop. But I don't want to go through the trouble of uninstalling the RPMs unless I really have to.

Any idea when the next (hopefully fixed) version of the drivers will be released?

Thanks.

The 2D slowdown has been noted by many users, and hopefully it will be resolved in a future driver release. The NVIDIA_Changelog in /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/ has further information regarding this.
