Inspiron 4100 still broken evenwith 7167 drivers
Well, I'm unhappy to report that the new 7167 drivers do nothing to help with the inspiron 4100 (gf2go).
To recap the bug:
If the linux console is currently being displayed on the flat panel, rather than an external monitor, then starting X will lock the machine up completely. If the console is on the external monitor, then everything works - it does not matter whether the console is text or vesa - it does not matter what screen(s) X is run on.
Zander asked a few questions when I last raised this issue but there was no follow through and as we see, no fix in the new drivers. This is a very silly bug and it's really making life with the laptop miserable.
The newest drivers that don't have the bug are 4496 and while I can get them to compile against 2.6.10 by back porting patches, I think 2.6.11 is a step too far. Even then, it would be nice to have access to the features of the newer builds.
I can't say how happy I would be if this could be resolved.
