but you should first check YOU(YaST Online Update), Suse might have already patched and tested packages... if they don't have them, or if you really want to try it... here's a quick & dirty HowTo rebuild X.org ... But be warned, the build process lasts some hours, also you "must" have a boardband connection (X.org source is ~40 MB + some MBs for dev-Tools ) and of course you might **** ** X... Ok, will try 7167 as soon as i have some time...
The patch seems to be nothing for me... (It's worse - I dont even have Internet in Linux, as I have ab troublemaking USB-Modem - manufacturer ignores Linux - but thats another story in another Forum..... Murphy seems to be after me) |

I think you just install 7167 drivers as per Suse instructions:
In run level 3 in a root shell sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7167-pkg2.run -q 3) Configure XFree86 with sax2 -m 0=nvidia (0 is a digit, not a letter!) After that Then apply the patch: # sh /path/to/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7167-pkg2.run --extract-only # cd NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7167-pkg2 # patch -p0 < /path/to/NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-7167-03.11.2005.diff.txt # modprobe -q agpgart <-- on Linux 2.6, only! # ./nvidia-installer Don't know if you need to be in run level 3 or not on the patch install. The instructions don't mention running SAX2 either after patch install. Is this correct? |

I think your first Install the patch:
# sh /path/to/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7167-pkg2.run --extract-only # cd NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7167-pkg2 # patch -p0 </path/to/NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-7167-03.11.2005.diff.txt # modprobe -q agpgart <-- on Linux 2.6, only! # ./nvidia-installer And as I mentionend: # modprobe nvidia was absolutely necessary to me! The line sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7167-pkg2.run -q is not necessary, because after the above lines, you already installed the patched version of the nvidia driver?! |
