Default FC3, nforce4, 6600GT with 7167 issues

Things mostly worked with the previous (6629 driver), now the cursor is always the
character insert vertical bar instead of the normal small arrow, even when not in a text window. I'm also missing screen updates, often gnome-terminals, firefox, or other applications will require a resize/refresh to see the window contents. Doom3 seems to work fine.

Anyone know if the kernel patches/updates are required when using a PCI-e video card?

I upgraded to 2.6.11.3 and everything was fixed. The curson now works, the scrolling,
blinking, part of windows disappearing is fixed, I do not need to disable hardware cursor or the xrender extension.

Basically works perfect for me.

Ouch - lot of work the first time. Read carefully first.

http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/K...ild-HOWTO.html

Get the source from a kernel.org mirror.
Get your current config from /boot.
Configure and build the kernel according to iinstructions.
Add it to grub/lilo but don't make it the default.
Boot it and test everything.
Go back to config step until you get it right.

nah - get the new kernel with 'yum update' from the testing tree. (enable testing/development yum repository in /etc/yum.d)
