Unhappy Linux driver for GFFX 5500 PCI?

Will the Linux IA32 drivers on the nVidia site (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-NNNN-pkg1.run) work on both PCI and AGP versions of a GeForce FX 5500 board?

The GeForce FX 5500 is listed in the ReadMe file's "APPENDIX A: SUPPORTED NVIDIA GRAPHICS CHIPS". (ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...167/README.txt) However, I also noticed that a few GPU's specifically had "PCI" designations. Are these the only ones that will work on a PCI board with these Linux drivers? Or are these special PCI *Express* versions of the GPU?

[I'm away from my Linux box, which is only on a local LAN, so please forgive inaccurate nomenclature]. I'm running Red Hat 8.0. The driver seems to install correctly, and I modify my XF86Config file per the Readme's instructions. After starting X, when I try to configure my display using the KDE tool, my available resolution only goes up to 800x600. My NVIDIA board isn't available in the list on the left side of the configuration tool. And when I tell the tool to probe my board, the driver reverts back to "vesa". The "nvidia" driver isn't even available in the menu...only "nv".

I'm at a loss. So far, I've tried driver versions 1.0-7167 & 6629.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Talking Re: Linux driver for GFFX 5500 PCI?

To anyone experiencing this problem, I found the answer...

Nvidia's Readme.txt from the website pointed me to the /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/XF86Config.sample, which got installed with the driver. The device "NV PCI" with the PCI bus ID had the clues I needed.
