Default Steam Authentication Problems

Ever since the last updates, whenever I am logging onto a steam server, I keep getting an authentication failure error due to something or other not able to connect to the authentication server.

Has anyone else gotten an error like this and does anyone know if there is a workaround?

Some firewalls need to be retrained or the program needs to be regiven access after a program update.

This may be an issue.

But yeah, Steampowered forums are the best place for this question.

First I thought this thread is about the nasty bug that popped up with the last steam update.

If you had your source games on "Update Automatically" you cant play your games offline anymore, says there is no account info on this computer no matter what you do.

this means if you want to play offline games (HL2,CSS Bots) you have to login for a bit somehow disconnect your internet connection without clicking on exit and play the game.next time?do the same. That defines "offline" pretty good.Several days have passed and its not yet been fixed.

things like this raises the place of "Coding God" two notches higher in my book.

I wonder if this is related to something I keep having a problem with. Often times steam will tell me that my client.dll or my map version differs from the servers, even though I am using the current version and there are many players on that server, and I can connect to all other servers using that same mod/map just fine, and even that same server if I wait about an hour later.

This happens with both HL1 and HL2 mods/maps.

EDIT: Heh, I just went searching for these bugs on the steam forums, and noticed a huge ongoing list of bugs for HL2:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...hreadid=248425

Add that to the already numerous memory errors and problems with steam itself :P

I get one when I try to set HL2 to 4xFSAA at 1280x1024 or higher resolutions. Stupid unreferenced read or some crap like that. I have to make the nvidia driver force 4xFSAA on in order to get it.

If you look on the steam forums, some people can't even run the game half of the time because of these.

theres a workaround for this, suggested recently on steamforums.install the loop back device and run steam without being connected to internet.

works for me but we still need the the official fix.

wonder when they are going to fix the "CROUCH EXPLOIT" wich has made the whole HL2DM players a Crouching Horde, very stupid.

It was a problem with one of the updates. With the next update, all fixed

Changing files, deleting, logging in again and others didn't help.
