Default Doom3 low performance with GForce 6600 GT

Hi,

Does anybody having low performance with doom3 ?
i'm with a AMD 3000+ , 512 DDR and the last official driver for the
XFX GForce 6600 GT.

I've instaled the driver well in Fedora Core 3, but i'm getting very low
performance in the game, is it necessary to do some tunning in the xorg.conf file ?

thks

Rui

I have glxgears above 10000 however I can only run hl1 mods with 30-50 fps with Fedora as well. I'm thinking of recompiling the kernel to try and test nvagp instead of agpgart?

Well i've checked, and i got around 7000 FPS! but i remember that my swap partition is maybe to small i got only 512, i'm going to resize it.
Another thing the kernel used is not the one with the smp patch, should i use it for this driver ?

how did you get doom3 going? all i seem to get is a blank screen in 640x480 (and the rest of the desktop). i get doom3's console stuff, it switches the resolution.. and that's it.

i've just downloaded the binary doom3-linux more info
at http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/linux/doom/

and instaled the GForce 6600 GT driver, worked on a first time, to slow but this weekend i'm going to try the smp-kernel patch.

Could give more information on the kernel you're using the nvidia driver, check the dmesg log. Is it only with doom or does other games do the same?

Well , just for the record in case some one has the same prob. I've follow a hint after googled a bit.

Quote:
Make a copy of your config first. Then open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.

Find the lines:

seta image_cacheMegs "32" (May be "20" on some computers)
seta image_cacheMinK "(Not sure which number thats supposed to be here"
seta image_useCache "0"

anyway, change the settings to the following:

seta image_cacheMegs "xxx" (xxx - Half the number of you RAM, so if you have 512 mb RAM, you should put 256 here, 1024 - 512 etc..)
seta image_cacheMinK "20480"
seta image_useCache "1"

**********************************
Now i get arroung 63 FPS, thks any how guys.

Just need to fix the sound, but that is another issue.
