Default Using 7174 drivers when no drivers above 6111 work

I have a little problem that is quite frequent :
I can't use a nvidia driver above 6111 with my FX5200 AGP card. When I try it, X is practically freezed, but I see my mouse moving.

But i just find a trick which permit me to use a 7174 driver.
I just have to compile the 7174 driver, then modify my xorg.conf in order to use the nv driver (not the nvidia one). Just reboot, and when you see your X starting, just kill it (with xdm, or kdm if you use it). Then modify your xorg.conf in order to use the nvidia driver, and just restart your X. For me, it works : i can you openGL applications without any problem.

I just want to know if this little trick works with other people...

I also think that this trick can be easily automatized, so if you want to do it, do it and post it here
