Default Sony and Nvidia may work together on Playstation 4

Quote:
As the company revealed during E3, it's teamed up with leading PC graphics card maker Nvidia to create a new graphics chip, called the RSX, for the PS3.

"Our new GPU has been cocreated with Nvidia. I drew a road map for the future together with [Nvidia president] Jen-Hsun, and the starting point of that road map is the RSX. Many people seem to think that the PS3's GPU is an upgraded model of GPUs for the PC, but it actually has a completely different architecture," explained Kutaragi, whose comments seemed to indicate that the two companies might work together again on the inevitable PlayStation 4.

not really too soon, IMHO.

I mean, there were articles and discussions going on, all over the place, about PS3 in 1999, before the PS2 was on store shelves

Sony has R&D for thier next consoles already going, PS3 was in its plannign stage when the PS2 was announced, hell Sony even came out and said that they hope to release a console every five years. Remember the PS9 commercial?

yep, absolutely.

the next-next console is in development by the time you hear about the 'new' next-gen one that they plan to bring out in a year.

man I would love to have a look at Sony and Nvidia's roadmap

When Sony PS3 first was the topic of discussion, Sony didn't really have much a clue as to what the console would be like. It was only logical that there be a PS3, and they CERTAINLY didn't think they'd be working with nVidia. At the time Sony probably figured they had all the talent they needed that far into the future.

In the next round, Sony just may be able to do their own graphics chip, or Intel may pull a dark horse out of the dark and release the best thing on the block (highly unlikely, but they can afford the R&D), or who knows, maybe another company may enter the fray of the "super ultra mega monster ultimate" technology realm and end up winning the contract.

Speculation this early is retarded, because largely the same type of discussion was said about nVidia and Microsoft...before they had their falling out.
