Default TV-out Widescreen signal

Anyone knows how to send out the "Wide Screen Signal" from my GeForce3 in tv-out mode?

Has worked flawlessly with Windows XP+TVTool, where my 32" 16:9 Tv is receiving the WSS and adjusts the picture. But now I want to upgrade my HTPC system to an UNIX variant.

Please help with suggestions, if possible at all?

In case of the Geforce3 most tvout stuff is handled by an external tvout chipset in your case likely some brooktree/conexant/chrontell chipset. The nvidia driver then controls this chipset. For old cards like the Geforce3 tvtool programs the videocard to output to the TV instead of the monitor. (it is a userspace driver) As you say your chipset can generate the WSS signal. The problem is that not all chipsets can generate this signal and this is perhaps the reason why there's no such option in the nvidia drivers. An alternative would be to use nvtv the linux-equivalent of tvtool but it isn't maintained anymore and also can't generate the WSS-signal.
