Default Assert failed when media apps run

Wierd error now occurs whenever i try to run some sort of .mpeg .avi .mov anything that has to do with video. Its whenever i CLICK on some media files, not all of them mind u, just some. Not sure why, none of them are any different from each other. Some run after the error, some don't. Well here is the error, hope u guys can be of some help:

Warning box:
Title: ASSERT Failed
At line 777 of d:\xpclient\multimedia\dshow\filterus\dexter\media det\mediadet.cpp. Continue?(Cancel to debug)
Yes No Cancel

Yes continues on opening the file which sometimes plays, no goes into a soft crash with the screen goin blank then refreshing, cancel does the same. This is with RealPlayer, with Windows media player, it just says the module is missing. Oh yah, this seems to be related to me installing the Direct X 8.1 SDK for development. Any help

Sounds like a bug, distributed copies for the public release should not have assert statements in the code.

I do not really know how this is related to directX sdk. Ok this is kinda corny, but have you tried seeing if you can just comment out that assert statement, i remeber doing that once for some mod and it worked.

My only other suggestion is to report this bug at the XP help site. Try snooping around there and seeing if anyone else has such problems too.
