Default pci mode not agp

For some reason the nvidia driver will only use PCI mode rather than AGP. It was working ok but then after some partition rearranging its switched to PCI mode
Tried reinstalling drivers (7676) with no change.

Anyone know why this might be happening and why moving partitions about would make it stop working?

Im using slackware with a 2.6.12 kernel
card is a GF4 MX420

Ive just noticed the /prog/drivers doesnt contain an agp dir - maybe something wrong with procfs, or does the nvidia driver normally make this?

*edit
seems it does but status reads
Status: Disabled

AGP initialization failed, please check the ouput
of the 'dmesg' command and/or your system log file
for additional information on this problem.

dmesg shows that agpgart is loaded ok

Note that if there's not any nvidia sub-directory in /proc/drivers it means that the nvidia module is not loaded.
Launch #lsmod to see if it's so and #dmesg|less for see the cause of that.

Are you using a Via K8T800 chipset with Amd64 CPU ?
If yes watch at my post http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=55415

no not using amd64, but there is an nvidia dir in proc now tho but still no agp

lsmod gives
Module Size Used by
nvidia 3707464 12

cant see anything relevant in dmesg:

Linux agpgart interface v0.101 (c) Dave Jones
agpgart: Detected SiS 746 chipset
agpgart: AGP aperture is 128M @ 0xd0000000

nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-7676 Fri Jul 29 12:58:54 PDT 2005

still cant work out why agp isnt working - all i changed was partitions, nothing else

You load agpgart but you have "NvAgp" "1" in xorg.conf. Change it to 2 or 3 or don't load agpgart.
