nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log'

-> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li
ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f
rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes)
-> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site;
this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for
your kernel.
ERROR: The kernel header file
'/lib/modules/2.6.12-gentoo-r6/build/include/linux/modversions.h' does
not exist. The most likely reason for this is that the kernel header
files in '/lib/modules/2.6.12-gentoo-r6/build/include' have not been
configured.
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
driver download page at www.nvidia.com.

any clue whats going on. it seems to want something from the kernel, but i dont understand...

Please use 1.0-7676. 1.0-4349 is no longer supported. Also make sure that you have the kernel source (or at least the kernel headers) that correspond with your kernel installed.

Thanks,
Lonni

Hi,

if you are using gentoo NEVER USE THe INSTALLER!

I hope this was clear.

Again:
With gentoo never use the installer!!

If you use the installer, you are guaranted to run into problems!

So please, remove everything the installer installed (this can be tidious), and use the ebuilds (FOLLOW THE DOCS).
After that, everything should be fine.
