Unhappy Can't set Brightness/Contrast/Hue anymore.

Upgraded to a 6600GT pci-express, and now when i run 'nvidia-settings' i get this:

#nvidia-settings

ERROR: Error querying valid values for attribute 'XVideoOverlaySaturation' on
debian:0.0 specified on line 41 of configuration file
'/root/.nvidia-settings-rc' (Attribute not available).

ERROR: Error querying valid values for attribute 'XVideoOverlayContrast' on
debian:0.0 specified on line 42 of configuration file
'/root/.nvidia-settings-rc' (Attribute not available).

ERROR: Error querying valid values for attribute 'XVideoOverlayBrightness' on
debian:0.0 specified on line 43 of configuration file
'/root/.nvidia-settings-rc' (Attribute not available).

ERROR: Error querying valid values for attribute 'XVideoOverlayHue' on
debian:0.0 specified on line 44 of configuration file
'/root/.nvidia-settings-rc' (Attribute not available).

The .nvidia-settings-rc file looks like so:

#
# /root/.nvidia-settings-rc

Any way to fix this? I mean i can't adjust any brightness or such with mplayer or xine.

Thx. I am using nvidia driver version 7667, Debian Sid, kernel 2.6.12, xfree86.

Does this behaviour happen in your system too? I didn't want to use xgamma since it changes the brightness of the entire desktop.

More modern Geforce6 cards like the 6200/6600(GT) and other recent models (including the Geforce7) don't contain hardware overlay support anymore, that's the reason you can't change all these settings.

Are you serious?? Wow, that sucks. Why would they do that? Is there a workaround for this for xine? Maybe i can pass it some paramater...I mean, what are you guys doing to change brightness?

Anyone know if this a driver issue and can be fixed? Or is it a hardware issue? Which video cards do support brightness then (from nvidia)? Is it everything below the 6x00 series?
