Somehow, I don't think I'll like FEAR. From what I've seen in the trailers and reviews, the environments seem dull, claustrophobic and monotonous. The gameplay also seems repetitive. The fact that my GTX gets its a** handed to it also isn't very pleasant, and I don't even want fancy soft shadows etc. All that I ask for is the ability to play at my native 1280 resolution with 4xAA/8xAF at 50 fps, but it won't even give me that much

However, after reading the fantastic feedback you guys are giving for this game, I'm getting more and more swayed. *Especially* since you brought up NOLF2, and agreed that Monolith has lived up to the standards they had set for themselves.
You do know that you can turn Soft Shadows off right?

i liked lots of their games too.

but they do like them scary, dont they? avp as marine is too scary for me.

same with fear, the damn game is so good if they kept out the shockers.. they could have had the atmosphere without the cheap:

'turn around and.. SKJFDHKLJSFHLSKFJHLF' bits.

otherwise a very very solid shooter. i can actually aim without the hud which is good. i bet its a blast multiplayer.

my vote goes for a shogo:MAD 2, too. that game had a ridiculous sense of scale if i remember, what with the buildings all being mecha sized an'all.

edit* yeah, and angs. mine runs fine with a 2400xp and a 6800gt.

Of course! My point was that I *still* won't get 50fps at 1280/4x/8x

That's true, but you won't with Quake either. With FEAR though, so far 1280/2x/4x runs *ok* most of the time.

Not got round to installing the game yet, only today came through from Amazon - interested to see on the packaging for my UK version, and in the accompanying booklet, that the recommended system specs stipulate 1GB, not 2GB, of RAM... Now trying to remember at exactly what resolution + settings I ran the demo (since uninstalled), which performed very smoothly. Hopefully the retail game will do the same, despite all the horror stories in circulation.

My 'vanilla' UK version apparently also includes most of the US Directors Cut materials (commentary, 'prequel' movie, behind the scenes doc) on the DVD. Bonus!

Tron 2.0 was it's day's Riddick.

Not many knew about it therefore not many appreciated it but it was a killer game in my opinion

And, it LOOKED fabulous.

Nope. Coming to the PC as well in 2nd quarter 2006, later than the 360 version of course but "apparently" there will be additional content as well.

FEAR is the only Monolith game I've liked enough to get the full version, AVP2 was nice but I didn't end up getting it. Didn't like NOLF much at all, guess I suck and I'm a n00b

Monolith only did AvP2 out of those but I guess you are praising Monlith there.
