Its basically a 6800 vanilla with a 110 core and high clocks to make it the same performance as a 6800gt, and it has lower power consumption.

It's not going to be quite on par with the GT as the GS is 12x1, 5 vp, compared to 16x1, 6 vp.

I wouldn't buy one at $249, but for the $210 price point that most e-tailers are charging, it's a steal.

Actually you'd be surprised. The Anandtech review shows similiar if not better performance vs. the 6800GT.

As almost all reviews have shown, the increased clocks make up for it. The memory bandwidth is the same, and the effective fillrate is the almost the same due to the increased core clock, so there's absolutely no reason for this card to perform any lower than the GT (maybe ~0-5% due to the slightly reduced fillrate). And it doesn't disappoint.

At $199, this card is simply *beautiful*

Edit: My bad. The texel fillrate is comparable to the GT, but the pixel fillrate is a lot less due to the 8 ROPs (as opposed to the GT's 16). 16 ROPs was definitely overkill on the GT, but 8 on the GS might be a little less.

Yup , and a higher core clock too ( overclocks to 5xx Mhz easily ).
