Default Mouse pointer and display problems with 81.74 x86_64

Hi,

I've successfully installed 81.74 on my machine which is a Dual Opteron, Dual PCIe x16 with 2 FX7800s. I have 2 LCDs connected to the first card and 1 LCD to the second. On the second video card I have to enable SWCursor otherwise the mouse cursor is scrambled. Also, there are occasionally display glitches on the display on the second video card (font issues??). I get the same problems with Gentoo with a 2.6.13 kernel and Fedora Core 4 x86_64 2.6.14 kernel.

I've attached a screen shot of firefox with the display glitches. I've also attached the nvidia-bug-report.log.

Has anybody got a solution/seen the same thing?

I should also add that apart from the above minor issues, it all works rather well and I'm very happy with the driver.

Cheers,
Rhys

I have a few questions:
0) Was this problem present with 1.0-7676?
1) What kind of motherboard are you using and which BIOS version?
2) Can you generate another bug report while this problem is present (and without using SWcursor).
3) If you swap the cards does the problem remain with the card that is in the 2nd PCI-E slot?

Thanks,
Lonni

Yes, the exact same behaviour.

> 1) What kind of motherboard are you using and which BIOS version?
Tyan Thunder K8WE (S2895A2NRF) Dual Opteron AMD8131
Bios Date 06/07/05
Bios Ver 1.01.2895

Attached. Unfortunately I don't know how to grab an image of the mouse pointer (basically looks like approx 70x70 pixels of TV static).

I swapped the cards, but the problems remain with the card in the 2nd PCIe slot, ie the glitches don't follow the card.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll boot into windows and see if I see similar behaviour and post a follow up shortly.

Cheers,
Rhys

For whatever its worth, the same setup works fine with the 81.94 driver under windows xp 64.

Rhys,
I'm afraid that I'm not able to reproduce this problem with two GeForce 7800 cards running FC4 (x86_64) using the xorg.conf in your bug report.

I have a few more questions:
0) Is this present in more than one window manager?
1) Can you try updating to the latest BIOS (1.02), just to ensure that its not somehow impacting your results?
2) On the 2nd card, it seems that you are using a DFP in analog mode, such that the driver is treating it as a CRT. If this is the case, can you try testing in digital mode?

Thanks,
Lonni

Hi Lonni,

Updating the bios to 1.02 fixed the problem. Thanks very much for helping me out.

I have just installed the latest drivers under Fedora Core 4, running Gnome desktop. Everything looks ok except the mouse pointer. It is a large fuzzy box. I am new to Linux. Where do I start looking?

Please post a bug report, along with information on your motherboard and its BIOS version.

Thanks,
