Default windows modline not working under linux !?

Hi

To get my Toshiba Flat Screen running under linux, i installed windows and powerstrip to get the correct modeline.

Powerstip gave me the following modeline:

Code:
ModeLine "1280x720" 74.25 1280 1390 1430 1650 720 725 730 750 +hsync +vsync
Now happy to now the correct modeline for my tv i booted linux and started xorg using this modeline.

Well all I got is the following:

Code:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "1280x720":
(WW) NVIDIA(0): horizontal blanking width ((max(1650,1430) - min(1280,1390)
(WW) NVIDIA(0): = 370) not a multiple of 8
(WW) NVIDIA(0): horizontal sync start (1390) not a multiple of 8
(WW) NVIDIA(0): horizontal frame length (1650) not a multiple of 8
What is up with that?

regards
Tobias

Please see http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...ppendix-j.html for documentation on mode programming and mode constraints.

zander, perhaps the best solution would be for the driver to merely print a warning, and then round the timings to the nearest multiple of 8. Perhaps that's why this modeline works on windows?

Hi

Thanks for the quick answer.
I've read the document but didn't find why the modeline works under Windows.
The ducument just states that ist simply does not work under linux

Tobias,

You'll need to modify the modeline so that the required fields are a multiple of 8. It's not that hard once you understand how the numbers are related (as described in the appendix). The resulting modeline will be virtually indistinguishable from the Windows version, yet it will work properly under Linux.
