GF fx go5700 black screen on load X w/8174

Have a zd7620us HP pavilion. Gentoo 2.6.14 kernel, gcc 3.4.4. New driver compiles and loads fine, upon starting X I get black screen. Can still hit ctrl-alt-del to reboot so not crashed or hung.

Attached two versions of bug output one with non-working 8174. one with working 7676. Note that when trying 8174 i had composites OFF and Fastwrite and sideband adressing OFF (all work ok with 7676).

I have a few questions:
0) Was the 1.0-8174 bug generated while X was hung?
1) Does this problem reproduce if the ndiswrapper module isn't loaded?
2) Which BIOS version are you using?
3) If you remove NvAGP=1, does that have any impact?

No, it was during a break in the next boot (couldnt generate log once screen was black).

Yes, ndiswrapper has no effect on black screen ocurring.

2) Which BIOS version are you using?

Was using .33, upgraded to .35 and now ITS WORKING!!

3) If you remove NvAGP=1, does that have any impact?

Changed to NvAGP=3, still uses nvidia agp... but it works.

DPI issues. Upon logging in DPI was set to 75 (claimed my 17" wsxga lcd was 500 mm wide, which is obviously wrong). Set Xft.dpi=115 in ~/.Xdefaults to override (using IgnoreEDID's still in xorg.conf, maybe it works now?).

Still having huge font issues.... mostly related to dpi. But manally setting in .Xdefaults does an "ok" job of fixing most issues (along with some editing of aplication default fonts).


Also, FastWrites do not work. Disabled even though NVreg variable is set in modules.d/nvidia
BUT, glxgears gives about 1000 more fps (i know, not a good benchmark but 33% increase means something!)

EDIT: clean reboot, fastwrite working. enemy-territory works (and is MUCH smoother i might add). Composite mode is working (and thus far less side effects). So seems like only DPI issue left to resolve.

Its not clear, are you seing the DPI problem without IgnoreEDID? If so, please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and post a new bug report.
