Smile 7676 will not suspend to ram on kernels 2.6.14+

Hi,

Suspend to ram has been working well for me for many months now, but when I updated my kernel to 2.6.14.1 it stopped working. A quick investigation revealed the following:

Dec 8 13:37:13 hal kernel: Stopping tasks: ================================================== ================================================== =====|
Dec 8 13:37:13 hal kernel: NVRM: ACPI: unsupported event: 2
Dec 8 13:37:13 hal kernel: Could not suspend device 0000:01:00.0: error -1

This means nvidia driver failed to suspend because it received a wrong event. I am not sure why the kernel sent a wrong code, but I fixed the problem by simply patching nv.c. The patch is attached to this message.

Cheers,
Waldeck

Thank you zander. I also found http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=59214 which discusses exactly the same issue.

Perhaps I should search the forums more carefully before posting. I apologize for that. However, the patch you mention is for 8174 which is not working for me right now (I have an NV17). Can it be applied to 7676 as well?

If the patch doesn't apply as-is, it could be easily adapted for 1.0-7676. What exactly doesn't work for you with 1.0-8174 and the NV17, though?

With 1.0-8174 the screen goes black (although it seems that the backlight is on) and the computer just freezes. The nVidia logo is never shown. After that the keyboard won't respond and I cannot reboot the machine and neither can I log on to it with ssh (although it will respond to pings).

I'm attaching a bug report, and I'll be glad to help in any way I can. Thank you.

Hi Zander,

With Lonni's help I eventually managed to get 1.0-8174 working on my laptop. I'm not sure why it works now, but I would guess it has to do with the following line which was added to my modprobe.conf:

options nvidia NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0 NVreg_Mobile=1

I was very pleased to see two very old bugs gone: corrupted consoles and DPMS black screen. Not to mention more speed and less ram usage. Very good work! Thanks a lot!
