Hi list,
I ran into a few problems with my nvidia card. I attached the nvidia-bug-report.log that was generated by you shell script. The laptop has been modified a little bit from the the spec, I replaced the 512mb of memory by 2gb of kingston memory. other then that it is still in its origional state. something that did bother me was that according to the spec it should have 256mb of video memory, but on my laptop it never reported more then 128mb. (using the 1.0.7676 driver) after upgrading to version 1.0.8174 it only reports 64mb of video memory which is even less. I just tested 1.0-8178 and the bug is there as well. if you look in the log you will see that there seems to be a memory allocation issue. (line 766 of the nvidia-bug-report.log file) (WW) ****INVALID MEM ALLOCATION**** b: 0xfc000004c0000000 e: 0xfc000004cfffffff correcting^G (II) window: * * * * [0] -1 *0 * * * 0xbde00000 - 0xddefffff (0x20100000) MX[b] (II) resSize: (II) window fixed: * * * * [0] -1 *0 * * * 0xbde00000 - 0xddefffff (0x20100000) MX[b] I also ran into a few graphics corruptions, which might or might not be a independent bug from the memory reduction because the memory reduction (from 128 to 64) occured in the versions beyond 1.0-7676: World of Warcraft: http://dndfreaks.xs4all.nl/other/bug/wow-1.png Anarchy Online: http://dndfreaks.xs4all.nl/other/bug/anarchy-1.png Warcraft III: http://dndfreaks.xs4all.nl/other/bug/warcraft3-1.png http://dndfreaks.xs4all.nl/other/bug/warcraft3-2.png http://dndfreaks.xs4all.nl/other/bug/warcraft3-3.png most games I play are under cedega but graphics also seemed to go corrupt under native linux games. I tested ut2004, savage and quake4 and they all had corruptions. I tried messing around with agpgart and nvagp and I found that I could let the corruption in native games stop when using nvagp instead of agpgart. the corruptions under cedega stayed however. (and the loss in video memory stayed as well) The corruptions do not seem to be random, it are always the same letters that corrupt, it is always the same part of a picture that corrupts, and it always corrupts the same way. My operating system is debian sarge pure64 I am running my games in a chroot. the chroot is running a 32bit version of debian sarge. I also created a gentoo 32bit chroot to see if that would perhaps work arround the problems. http://kapcoweb.com/p/static/docs/jc...o.html#sources the gentoo chroot worked fine, but it didn't resolve the corruptions. last thing I tried was to run the games using the X server from the gentoo chroot instead of debian sarge to see if perhaps there was something wrong with my X server. I got the X server to run just fine but it didn't make any difference either. Anyone any hints as how to work around this? Thanks, Mark Hannessen |

I'm not sure about it, but I think it's related to my bug: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=61866
I don't see so many artefacts under diablo, but I mainly see the the bug, due to the pointer change that corrupt the memory on my secondary screen. So far my bug was kinda ignored, hope this one will not since I think it's the same bug. |

I don't think they are related,
because the graphics corruption I talked about existed in the 1.0.7676 driver as well, and yours didn't. |

@MoonWatcher: did you see the ****INVALID MEM ALLOCATION**** error messages with the Gentoo X server, as well?

nice hint.
I just tried it out and to my surprise the memory allocation error is not logged in the gentoo log file. the video memory however, does seem to be reduced to 64mb just like under sarge. (and the corruption exists as well) I attached both log files just in case it might come in handy. |
