confused about tv-out

I am using Fedora4 x86_64 on compaq r3000z, Geforce 420 Go 32. Server is
is nvidia 8178.

I see hotkey actually works to some extent. Fn-F4 will detect my tv-out svga ntsc-m.

Problem is, when I want to display a dvd. It will display fine on built-in LCD using xine, or kaffeine. It also will display on TV if only TV out is enabled. But, displaying on both LCD and TV is very flaky. Occasionally I've gotten it to work, but I haven't figured out how to repeat it. I think it's a function of when Fn-F4 was activated with respect to logging in, what resolution was, etc.

Let me clarify. I'm logging into kde (3.5). Everything will display OK on both screens simultaneously, but not output of dvd. Instead, it will display on LCD, while the corresponding window on the TV is just blue. Only the window for the TV output.

.xsession-errors has errors about bad pixmaps.

What do others find?
